The connecticut state flad was made in 1897. The flag is azure blue. The state motto is printed on the flag. Wich is Qui Transtulit Sustinct. This means "He who transplanted still sustains." The grape vines represent the three original colonies, "New Haven, Saybrook, and Hartford. The grapes are a symbol of good luck and peace. The vines symbolize strength. The oak leaves and acorns represent faith, age, urdurance, and strength.

The sperm whale lives in groups called pods to keep and protect the young. Theres whales have the largest brain and they make a very loud sound. They eat cuttlefish and medium size squids. They live 70 years or more.

About the Connecticut State bird
The robin is a song bird. It is grayish in color, it has a orange patch on the chest. They go south at the end of August, and come back north in March. Male Robins during breeding grow black feathers on their heads.
The State Flower
The Connecticut flower has star shaped flowers. It is a mountain laurel. John Smith wrote about it in a book in 1624. The mountain laurel is a Native American shrub. Its nectar is poisonous!

Important People From CT
Phineas T. Barnum was born in Bethel, CT in 1810 but later lived in Bridgeport, CT. He became famous for starting a circus that was named the greatest show on earth. He earned the title of master showman because he always put on good shows. The first weeks of his circus didn't go well, but later he had huge crowds. Barnum died on April 7, 1891 and is buried in Bridgeport, CT.

In CT we have nursery and greenhouses. The top crops are hay, tobacco, blueberries, and pears. We manufacture aircraft parts, helicopters, and submarines. Crush stone is Connecticut's leading mined products, followed by sand and gravel. Manufacturing is important because it makes the most jobs for the people of Connecticut.

In the winter months of December, January, and February, it starts to get very cold. Winter in Connecticut can be cold, wet, and snowy. Temperatures range between 0-40 degrees. In the Spring months of March, April, and May, the snow melts and the ground starts to unthaw making it a wet season. Temperatures in the spring are between 40-75 degrees. In the summer months of June, July, and August, the weather in CT is warm with August being the hottest month of the year. You can usually expect a heatwave which is 3 or more days if 90 degree temperatures or higher. In the Fall months of Sep/Oct/Nov/, the weather starts to get colder. CT Lighthouses
It is in Old Saybrook where the CT River meets LI Sound. It was built in 1803 out of wooden construction and was 35 ft. tall. Some of the problems were: it wasn't tall enough for ships to see; mist from nearby marshland made it hard for ships to see the light. They decided to rebuild it in 1838. Then it was 65 ft. tall and made of brownstone. When a new lighthouse was built in 1886 it was called the Outer light and Lynde Point was called the Inner Light. The lighthouse was automated in 1975. Lighthouses are still important today to help passing ships so they can see where to go.
The Charter Oak
The Charter Oak is famous because the symbols of strength, love, and freedom which inspired our colonial soldiers. The oak was then blown down in a violent storm about 150 years ago in August 21, 1856. The Charter Oak was a hiding place for a special document for the colonies charter. I liked this place because it gives you some interesting facts, like that the tree tells them when they need to plant the seeds in the ground.
The Bushnell Theatre
The Bushnell Theater is famous because it has been playing famous shows for over 70 years! It's also famous because it is home to the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. It is interesting because it has held things like spelling bees, high school graduations and even the 1996 Presidental Debate!
Mystic Seaport
Mystic is famous because it is the nations leading maritine museum. You can visit a 19th century village with a shipyard. More thane 300,000 people visit Mystic every year. Mystic Seaport has the oldest wooden whale ship. It is called the Charles W. Morgan whale ship. The ship was built in 1841 and the museum takes care of it.
Dinosaur State Park
Dinosaur State Park is in Rocky Hill, CT. It is famous for its dinosaur tracks. It is the biggest display of dinosaur tracks in North America. There are 500 tracks! I learned that swimming dinosaurs scratch the ground when they walk. Ground dinosaurs leave full prints.
Wadsworth Athenaeum
It is located in Hartford, Connectict next to the Hartford Public Library. Daniel Wadsworth founded the Wadsworth Atheneum of Art in 1842. It is the oldest public art museum in the United States. There are almost 50,000 pieces of art in the museum. There are many old and many new, modern drawings, sculptures, and metal objects. There is even a man on a trapeze and a woman sunbathing. The Wadsworth Atheneum is a Gothic Revival building. It was buit in 1844 and is now 5 connected buildings. The building looks like a castle from the front.
The Capital Building
The house chamber is in the building were they make bills and laws. The governor's office is here too! There are statues of famous people like Nathan Hale in here. The gold dome is covered with a real layer of gold. It's on Capitol Avenue and opened in 1879. It cost more than 2 million dollars to build. It has it's own cops.
The Old State House
It is in Hartford, Connecticut. It was declared the National Historic landmark and so far it has been there for 99 years. From 1796 to 2011. It is haunted by ghosts in 2009 and been made in 1796. It's made from the brownstone quarries.
Gillette's Castle
It's famous because it was built by a famous actor, William Gilette. It's built with stone and you can see it from the Connecticut river. It took 20 men 5 years just to build the main structure! Out of the 47 doors no 2 are the same!
